FAQs
How does silk become an exfoliant?
Our authentic Turkish artisans are generational masters who specialize in the sacred art of silk weaving that you won't find anywhere else. The superpower of the BODY SÓL™ Glove is activated by water. Its sacred geometric structure is the science to the perfect exfoliation. This special weaving technique of raw silk is gentle on the skin, yet highly effective in exfoliating.
After the first use, the BODY SÓL™ Glove silk becomes more effective.
How do I use my BODY SÓL™ silk glove?
Why am I not peeling?
If you exfoliate often, you may not see an excessive amount of dead skin peel off. You still are receiving the benefits! It's recommended to exfoliate 1x per week. The warmer your skin and the longer you soak, the more you'll shed. Exfoliate directly after a hot shower, bath, or sauna.
It is important to follow the instructions step by step.
Before exfoliation, ensure to thoroughly rinse all soap and oil residue from skin. Do not exfoliate under a direct stream of water, however your skin should be warm and hydrated. Do not rinse the dead skin off while you exfoliate, it helps the process. Start at the ankles and work your way up. After the first use, the BODY SÓL™ Glove silk becomes more effective. The glove may not cause peeling on excessively hairy skin because of the lack of friction, although it is excellent for pre-shaving— even for beards.
Do I exfoliate before or after waxing?
For the best results, it’s best to exfoliate prior to waxing to ensure the buildup of dead skin cells is reduced avoiding ingrown hairs and bumps. Use your silk exfoliant a day or two before removing your hair. Make sure you don’t go overboard, applying the most comfortable pressure for your skin. Clean exfoliated skin allows moisture to penetrate deeper into the skin, allowing absorption and retention for lotion-like skin. For best results, buff your skin gently a few days after waxing– keeping ingrown hairs at bay for longer-lasting smooth skin.
Do not use on broken, irritated, or burned skin. Wait 24 hours before applying tanner or tanning in the sun, shaving, or waxing. Apply appropriate pressure as needed and comfortable for your skin type.
Do I exfoliate before or after shaving?
Exfoliate prior to shaving. Dermatologists recommend exfoliating a day or two before shaving as a serious pro-tip to kick-start cell renewal, keeping your healthy cells at the surface for visible radiance.
Exfoliating clears the way for your razor to glide gracefully to get the cleanest and exceptional close shave. Exfoliating before shaving reduces ingrown hairs, as it removes dead skin cells which clog up hair follicles and trap hair under the skin. Not only do you get a closer shave and smoother skin, you help prevent ingrown hairs, razor bumps, acne, keratosis pilaris, and strawberry legs. For best results, buff your skin gently a few days after shaving– This will remove dead skin making it easier for the hair to come through. Stimulating oxygen-rich blood flow nourishes the skin's surface boosting cellular health. Proteins, like collagen, maintains skin health and prevents wrinkles and sagging. Clean exfoliated skin allows moisture to penetrate deeper into the skin, allowing absorption and retention for lotion-like skin.
If your freshly exfoliated skin turns a bit red, don’t fret— creating surface-rich mild irritation triggers a healing response, increasing cell turnover, the BODY SÓL™ Glove gives these collagen proteins a wake-up call—maintaining your youth. A splash of cold water should lessen the initial redness.
When exfoliating the face, the skin is more sensitive and delicate than the skin on the rest of your body, meaning it requires a particularly mild exfoliation.

Currently, most exfoliant gloves sold as “silk” or “herbal silk” are actually viscose!
What is the difference between using Silk vs Floss/Viscose - Viscose Silk/Herbal Silk/Floss Silk?
Silk exfoliating gloves have been used since the Ottoman empire and were reserved for the Sultan, particularly the Empress and their daughters. In an attempt to follow royal customs, the common people developed a viscose glove, which they named "herbal silk" or “viscose silk.” For this reason, most exfoliant gloves consist of viscose and other materials. However, the only materials BODY SÓL™ materials utilize is 100 % natural real silk.
All exfoliant gloves are known as "kese" in Turkey.
Its natural structure is less irritating on the skin compared to viscose and other synthetic exfoliants. Silk is the only choice to make when it comes to your face.
Viscose is a chemically-developed synthetic rayon fabric developed in France in 1883 as a cheap alternative to silk. This chemistry is actually harsh and damaging to the skin and face. Most exfoliants are falsely sold as “viscose silk” or “herbal silk” are not in fact silk at all.
Viscose, also known as rayon, is labeled as semi-synthetic, as it’s made from cellulose (as all early plastics were). However, it’s not quite natural due to the extensive chemical process it’s put through. The plant fiber has been processed into rayon using toxic chemicals. The chemical process involves sodium hydroxide and carbon disulfide into rayon then spun into threads using sulfuric acid. No trace of the original plant is left. It takes decades for viscose/rayon to biodegrade.
There are no rayon producers in the United States because it is too toxic to comply with the EPA’s standards—workers are at high risk of insanity, nerve damage, heart disease, and stroke. Once these factories dump the chemicals into the waterways, the whole community can be poisoned.
The properties of raw silk support your natural pH balance and doesn't interfere with the skin’s delicate microbiome and unparalleled in its effectiveness in removing dead skin. Products that use chemicals will disrupt our skin’s health, so we look to nature for our beauty rituals.
The BODY SÓL™ silk is 100% pure, without any dyes or synthetic chemicals and easily biodegradable.

Why are synthetic exfoliants damaging?
Synthetic fibers and silicon products cause premature wrinkling. Sponges, brushes, scrubbers, micro-bead cleansers, and others do not adequately clean the skin. Additionally, synthetic fibers contain microscopic pores that encourage bacteria buildup and tend to contribute to dermalogical issues, further skin problems such as acne. Not only damaging to the body, but destructive to Earth’s fragile ecology.
Every time we wash and use microfiber cloths, exfoliating micro-beads, and cleansers with chemicals, micro-plastics are introduced to our oceans— in recent years has caused environmental damage that BODY SÓL™ seeks to help reverse. BODY SÓL™ understands that it is the responsibility of humanity to maintain balance in Earth’s natural ecosystem.
Our skin absorbs pollution and many other chemicals from everyday products and the environment. Skin, while resilient, is very delicate. Natural silk doesn't age the skin as other exfoliants do. The properties of raw silk support our natural pH balance and doesn't interfere the skin’s sensitive microbiome. Products infused with unnatural chemicals will disrupt our skin’s health— Nature has truly provided the finest beauty rituals for the body. Silk is naturally anti-bacterial, making it the most hygienic choice for a deep-cleansing exfoliation. When you add water, the special weave and natural structure of silk becomes abrasive to effectively exfoliate, yet perfectly gentle for sensitive skin.
The raw cocoon silk fabric has been used in skin care and exfoliating gloves for centuries and is preferred due to its effectiveness in removing dead skin. Additionally, silk is found to prevent irritation to the human skin compared to other materials.
